Tom C This film is incredible. What a innovative approach to documentary storytelling. The mashup of doc, high end scripted scenes, and behind the scenes verite with Alec and the other actors offers a great way to have this story unfold. Rated 5/5 Stars •Rated 5 out of 5 stars07/24/24 Full Review Gareth v Could of done without the behind the scenes chat with the actors, but a solid doco that tries to convey what drove this man to do what he did. Rated 3.5/5 Stars •Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars06/17/23 Full Review chris m I was disappointed. I expected nefarious goings on by government agencies on behalf of GM to nail the poor guy. While there was a dirt bag confidential informant and some actions that could be considered entrapment by federal investigators, no great shakes compared to the title. An overview of his life (business and personal) from Pontiac to the demise of the DMC was interesting. Interviews with his bitter, poverty striken, potty mouthed son could have been reduced. Rated 2/5 Stars •Rated 2 out of 5 stars03/31/23 Full Review isla s I found this interesting in terms of the story, what happened to the company and the legal case etc. that followed, which I hadn't previously been aware of. However, I found the acted parts with Alec Baldwin portraying John DeLorean rather distracting and I didn't think it fully worked. I'd rather they use genuine library/archive footage and talking heads to discuss what happened - which, by the way, they do but the mix of that and acted scenes, reconstructions, jarred with me. I found it a bit hard to follow some of the aspects, the finer details of what happened and I wouldn't say its an especially engrossing or gripping watch but if your interested in the story, you do learn some things and also I did enjoy hearing from John's children. That aspect was insightful, how his kids reacted to what happened and their memories of things. This is a somewhat interesting documentary, which seems to be not 100% sure if it wants to be the TV documentary show it mainly is, or if it wants to somehow also be a more glitzy Hollwood drama film, which it isn't really. It doesn't really work entirely but its still ok, hence my rating. I wouldn't go out of your way to watch it though, unless your particularly keen on the subject as such. I'm still a bit unclear about quite how he was framed, frankly. An interesting story presented in a unique way that probably ventured to far into self reference for me. Interviewing an actor, while they are dressed for the role, about the character he is playing in the recreated scenes for a documentary where the historical footage not only exists but is being presented alongside the reenactments, is something I had never seen until now. Framing John DeLorean is a 2019 American documentary film directed by Don Argott and Sheena M. Joyce and written by Dan Greeney and Alexandra Orton, about the life of John DeLorean.
On October 19, 1982, DeLorean was charged by the US government with trafficking cocaine following a videotaped sting operation in which he was recorded by undercover federal agents agreeing to bankroll a cocaine smuggling operation.
The stainless-steel panels are fixed to a fiberglass underbody. The underbody is affixed to a steel backbone chassis with Y-frames at either end, derived from the Lotus Esprit platform. The chassis was coated with epoxy, a material to protect steel against corrosion.
Despite this lack of success, the DeLorean became famous and immortalized when it was featured in the 1985 film Back to the Future. John DeLorean died in Summit, New Jersey on March 19, 2005 at the age of 80.
By the end of 1981, the Dunmurry factory had produced 7,500 cars but the DeLorean Motor Company had only managed to sell 3,000. In February 1982, the DMC was placed into receivership and by the end of May 1982, production at the factory was shut down.
“Driven” is inspired by the real-life events surrounding the rise and fall of car designer John DeLorean (Lee Pace), but Bateman's script centers on low-level criminal Jim Hoffman (Jason Sudeikis), a far less famous figure.
Jason Sudeikis steals every scene he is in as Jim Hoffman, but Lee Pace's portrayal of John Delorean is spot-on of the methodical genius. Presented as a "based on true events" biopic, I feel a lot of dramatic licenses were taken in bringing the final story to film.
Now a rock star, DeLorean went Hollywood with a chin implant, shaggy sideburns and multiple trips to L.A., where, after dating Ursula Andress, Joey Heatherton and Tina Sinatra, he married the actress Kelly Harmon, then the model Cristina Ferrare.
